The long-running venue and shared-task competition for machine translation research, co-located with EMNLP. The shared tasks are the substance here. WMT has run standardised translation evaluations for years and its results are the reference point the field cites, which also makes its human evaluation methodology a recurring subject of study. Evaluating translation quality automatically remains unsolved, which is why the human evaluation protocol receives so much scrutiny.
