VLDB is one of the two flagship database conferences alongside SIGMOD, covering database systems, query processing and optimisation, storage, distributed data management and the expanding overlap between data management and machine learning. Papers appear in the Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment.
The 53rd edition runs August 23 to 27, 2027 in Athens. The venue has not been announced.
VLDB’s research track runs on a rolling monthly cycle rather than a single annual deadline, which is the most important thing to understand about submitting here. Submissions open on the 20th of every month, and from 2027 abstracts are due on the 25th of the month before the full paper deadline. Notifications land on the 1st of every month, running until March 2027 for this edition. In practice that means there is nearly always a next deadline within weeks, so the question is which month to aim for rather than whether you have missed the year.
Athens is a busy conference city in this period: MICRO 2026 was there in October 2026 and RSS 2027 runs in July, a month before VLDB.
