PODS, the ACM Symposium on Principles of Database Systems, is the theoretical counterpart to SIGMOD. It covers database theory: query languages and their expressiveness, complexity of query evaluation, data integration, consistency, provenance, and increasingly the theoretical foundations underneath machine learning over relational data. It has run yearly since 1982.
The 2027 edition runs June 13 to 19 in Huntington Beach, California, co-located with SIGMOD as always. The two share a week and a venue, so one trip covers both the theory and the systems side of databases, and the joint programme is the main reason people attend one and sit in on the other. The venue has not been announced yet.
PODS takes submissions in two cycles. Cycle one closed in May 2026 with final notifications on September 1, 2026. Cycle two closes with an abstract on December 3 and the full paper on December 10, 2026, with a rebuttal window from January 26 to 29, 2027, an initial notification on February 8, revisions due February 22 and a final notification on March 1, 2027. All deadlines are 23:59 anywhere on earth.
