CVPR 2026 Denver: Travel Guide and Where to Stay

CVPR 2026 Denver: Travel Guide and Where to Stay

   //   6 min read

The IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition returns to Denver for 2026, running June 3-7 at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown. CVPR is the largest and most-cited conference in computer vision and image processing globally — A* ranked, with tens of thousands of submissions and attendance that rivals the biggest ML conferences. If you’re making the trip, here’s what to know about getting there, where to sleep, and navigating the city.

The venue: Colorado Convention Center

The Colorado Convention Center sits in the heart of downtown Denver, a short walk from Union Station, the 16th Street Mall, and the main hotel strip. It’s a large, modern facility spread across multiple halls and well set up for events of CVPR’s scale. The building is famous locally for the giant blue bear sculpture peering through the glass facade — you’ll walk past it every morning.

The venue’s downtown location is one of its biggest advantages over convention centres situated in out-of-the-way districts. Most conference hotels are within ten minutes’ walk, there are dozens of restaurants within two blocks, and the light rail drops you at Union Station a short distance away. Denver is a genuinely walkable conference city in a way that not all American cities are.

Getting to Denver

Flying in: Denver International Airport (DIA) is about 25 miles northeast of downtown — one of the further airport-to-city distances in North America. The drive or rideshare takes 35-50 minutes depending on traffic, with costs typically running $35-55 each way.

The better option for most attendees is the RTD University of Colorado A Line, a commuter rail service that runs directly from DIA to Union Station in downtown Denver. It takes around 37 minutes, runs frequently throughout the day, and costs around $10. From Union Station it’s a 10-15 minute walk or short rideshare to the Convention Center. This is the most reliable way to avoid the traffic uncertainty that can affect DIA arrivals.

Altitude: Denver sits at exactly 5,280 feet — the Mile High City. If you’re travelling from sea level, you may feel the difference more than expected: mild headaches, slightly elevated heart rate, and dehydration happen faster than usual. Drink more water than you think you need from the moment you land, ease off alcohol on the first night, and give yourself a day to acclimatize before expecting to feel completely normal. It’s not serious for healthy adults, just worth knowing.

Denver in early June

June is one of the best times to visit Denver. Temperatures are warm and the humidity is notably low compared to the east coast or midwest — typical highs around 27-30°C with cool evenings that make outdoor dining very pleasant. The sky is reliably blue and clear in the mornings.

The one weather quirk to know: the Rocky Mountains generate afternoon thunderstorms throughout June and July. They roll in fast, typically between 2 and 5pm, and usually clear within an hour. If you’re planning any time outdoors, mornings are far better than afternoons. The convention centre schedule tends to keep most people inside during peak storm hours anyway.

The mountains are visible from much of downtown — a genuine backdrop, not a distant smudge. If you have a free afternoon or day, the options are exceptional: Red Rocks Amphitheater is 20 minutes west (worth visiting even without a show), Rocky Mountain National Park is about 90 minutes, and the ski towns of Breckenridge and Vail are 90 minutes to two hours by car. Denver also has good pro sports in June: the Colorado Rockies play at Coors Field, a 10-minute walk from the convention centre.

Where to stay near the Colorado Convention Center

The hotels below are all in the downtown Denver core, within walking distance of the Convention Center. Current availability and pricing are on the CVPR 2026 accommodations page.

Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center is the obvious first choice — it connects directly to the Convention Center via a skywalk, meaning you can walk from your room to sessions without going outside. Four-star, full-service, reliably comfortable and heavily used by conference attendees. The premium is worth it if you value the convenience.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center is steps from the venue and offers suite-style rooms with a separate living area, which gives more space to spread out work or host small meetings. Good breakfast included. A popular choice for attendees staying the full week.

Grand Hyatt Denver sits in the financial district a short walk from the Convention Center. Impressive 26-floor property with a solid gym, good rooms, and a slightly quieter location than the hotels immediately adjacent to the venue.

The Curtis Denver, a DoubleTree by Hilton is a pop-culture themed 3-star a short walk from the venue — each floor has a different theme, from sci-fi to romance to country music. Not everyone’s taste, but it’s genuinely fun and significantly cheaper than the full-service 4-stars without sacrificing quality or convenience.

Hilton Garden Inn Denver Downtown is a modern property directly across from the Convention Center, reliable and well-priced for a Hilton. Good choice if you want a straightforward, no-frills hotel at a reasonable cost.

Embassy Suites Denver Downtown/Convention Center (a separate property from the one above) also offers two-room suites with a complimentary evening reception. Useful for longer stays or travelling with a companion.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown/Convention Center is the extended-stay option — kitchenette suites, complimentary breakfast, and a residential feel. Well-suited for attendees staying the full conference week or pairing the conference with additional meetings in Denver.

Tru by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center is the budget pick in this cluster — clean, modern, compact rooms, reasonable price, and in the right place. A solid choice for grad students or anyone prioritising cost.

Getting around downtown Denver

Downtown Denver is more walkable than most American cities. The Convention Center to Union Station is about 10 minutes on foot. The 16th Street Mall is a free pedestrian and transit mall running through the heart of downtown with a shuttle bus covering the whole length — useful for getting between the lower end near the Union Station area and the upper end near Civic Center.

Uber and Lyft are reliable throughout the metro area. If you’re venturing beyond downtown — to RiNo (River North Art District), the Highlands, or anywhere south on Broadway — rideshare is the most practical option. Denver’s light rail network is good for getting to and from the airport and a few other destinations, but less useful for covering the inner city.

Renting a car is worth considering if you plan to get into the mountains, as public transport doesn’t reach the parks and ski towns. For staying entirely in the conference zone, you won’t need one.

Food and practical notes

LoDo (Lower Downtown) around Union Station is the most concentrated area for good food and drink — dozens of restaurants and bars in a compact area 10-15 minutes’ walk from the Convention Center. The area around Blake Street and Larimer Square has the highest density of good options.

RiNo (River North) across the highway is Denver’s creative district, with the best independent restaurant and bar scene in the city. It’s a 15-minute walk or short rideshare from the venue and worth an evening for anyone staying multiple days.

Altitude and alcohol: this combination affects people differently. A beer at 5,280 feet hits faster than at sea level, and dehydration compounds this. The standard advice is to alternate water with alcohol and eat before drinking — not just conference wisdom but genuinely useful in Denver.

Tipping: standard US restaurant tipping applies — 18-22% is the norm in most sit-down restaurants.
