CVPR and SIGCOMM 2026 Denver: Travel Guide and Where to Stay
Two A* conferences. Same venue. Acceptances for both just dropped.
CVPR 2026 runs June 3-7 at the Colorado Convention Center - computer vision and pattern recognition, one of the highest-attendance research conferences in the world, with tens of thousands of submissions and a similarly punishing acceptance rate. If your vision paper got in, you have about three weeks to book.
SIGCOMM 2026 runs August 17-21 at the same venue - the flagship ACM conference for networking research, covering Internet architecture, congestion control, data centre networks, and everything that makes global communication work at scale. Acceptances dropped this week into a 14% acceptance rate.
Whether you are heading to Denver in June or August, the logistics are the same. Here is what to know.
The venue: Colorado Convention Center
The Colorado Convention Center sits in the heart of downtown Denver on 14th Street, a few blocks from the 16th Street Mall pedestrian corridor. It is a large, purpose-built venue with high ceilings and good natural light - easier to navigate than the stadium-style convention halls that host some other A* conferences.
Several hotels are directly connected or within a two-minute walk. SIGCOMM typically fills the closest ones fast, so book as soon as the conference housing block opens.
Getting to Denver
From the airport: Denver International Airport (DEN) is one of the largest and best-connected airports in the US, with nonstop service from most major hubs including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, and Tokyo Narita. The A-Line commuter rail runs directly from the terminal to Union Station in downtown Denver in 37 minutes for $11.25. No surge pricing, no traffic - this is the right call on arrival. Union Station is a 15-20 minute walk from the Convention Center, or one stop on the light rail.
Taxis and rideshare from DEN to downtown run around $35-50, faster during off-peak hours.
Driving: If you are renting a car, note that the Convention Center garage and nearby parking fill during peak conference hours. The public transit option is genuinely the easier choice for getting to and from sessions.
Altitude
Denver sits at 5,280 feet above sea level - the “Mile High City” is not a marketing line. If you are flying in from a sea-level city, you may notice the altitude for the first day or two: mild headaches, faster intoxication, and a tendency to wake up dehydrated. Drink more water than usual the first day, go lighter on the drinks at the first evening social, and you will acclimatize quickly. By day two most people do not notice it at all.
Where to stay
The hotels below are all within walking distance of the Colorado Convention Center and are the most practical choices for SIGCOMM attendees. August is peak season in Denver, so book as early as possible.
Closest to the venue
Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center is the standout choice for the conference - it is physically connected to the venue via a skywalk. Four stars, large rooms, multiple restaurants on site. If you want to get from your bed to the registration desk without going outside, this is the one. Rates are higher than the surrounding options, but the convenience for a five-day conference is significant.
Embassy Suites Denver Downtown Convention Center sits steps from the venue and offers two-room suites with a separate living area and complimentary hot breakfast. A good pick for anyone who wants more space or is attending with a partner who is not at the conference.
Mid-range
Hilton Garden Inn Denver Downtown faces the Convention Center directly and is a well-priced 3-star option with solid WiFi and a fitness centre. Clean, functional, and within 90 seconds of the conference entrance.
The Curtis Denver (a DoubleTree) is a pop-art-themed hotel a block from the venue with an enthusiastic local following. Each floor has a different design theme. It costs less than the Hyatt and has more personality - a good fit for younger attendees or anyone who wants something a bit different.
Grand Hyatt Denver is in the financial district, a short walk from the Convention Center rather than directly adjacent. Larger rooms, upscale common areas, and tends to price somewhat below the Regency.
Extended stay and value
Homewood Suites Denver Downtown is an all-suite extended-stay property near the venue, with in-suite kitchens and complimentary breakfast. A sensible pick if you are staying the full week or travelling with family.
Tru by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center is the most affordable option in this cluster - a compact 3-star property with a good location that works well for cost-conscious attendees or grad students on a per-diem.

Food and neighbourhoods
LoDo (Lower Downtown) is the most walkable area from the Convention Center - a dense strip of bars, breweries, restaurants, and Union Station itself. Larimer Square is the best single block for dinner options. Good for post-session networking dinners.
16th Street Mall runs through the centre of downtown and is lined with casual restaurants and coffee shops at every price point. The free MallRide bus runs the length of it.
RiNo (River North Art District) is a 15-minute walk or short rideshare northeast of downtown, with the best independent restaurant and bar scene in Denver. Worth the trip for a dinner away from the conference crowd.
Coors Field is in LoDo - if the Colorado Rockies have a home game during the conference week it is an easy way to spend an evening, and tickets are usually cheap.
Weather: June (CVPR) vs August (SIGCOMM)
Both months are sunny and dry compared to anywhere on the east coast or midwest - Denver’s low humidity is one of the best things about it as a conference city.
June (CVPR): Highs around 27-30°C with cool, comfortable evenings. One of the best months to visit Denver. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible - they typically roll in between 2 and 5pm, pass within an hour, and the mornings are reliably clear. Pack a light jacket for evenings.
August (SIGCOMM): Warmer - highs around 30-32°C - but still comfortable given the low humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms are more frequent than June. Same advice applies: mornings are clear, carry something waterproof for mid-afternoon.
Both months: temperatures drop noticeably after sunset. A layer for evening events is useful regardless of month.
Day trips
If you are extending your trip before or after SIGCOMM:
Rocky Mountain National Park is about 90 minutes by car from downtown Denver - worth a day for anyone who has not been. Trail Ridge Road reaches above 12,000 feet and the wildlife viewing is exceptional in August.
Boulder is 45 minutes northwest - a good half-day if you want a university town feel with good cafes and easy hiking on the Flatirons.
Colorado Springs (1.5 hours south) has Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods if you want something more dramatic.
