TROOPERS is a long-running, deliberately small technical security conference with a strong reputation for deep network, hardware and protocol security work rather than vendor content. It is known for its atmosphere and for attracting practitioners who present research they do not take to the larger commercial conferences, which makes it a better fit for substantive technical work than for product announcements. Trainings run before the conference proper, so a training-plus-conference trip is nearly twice as long as the talks alone. It is not CORE-ranked.
