Troopers is an annual security conference organised by ERNW, the Heidelberg-based security research firm, and is one of the most respected practitioner-focused security events in Europe. The format combines two days of intensive pre-conference training workshops with a two-day main conference covering enterprise network security, penetration testing, offensive research, and applied cryptography. The audience is predominantly working security professionals rather than academics, which gives Troopers a notably practical tone. Heidelberg is a compact and pleasant city in the Rhine-Neckar valley, well-connected by fast rail to Frankfurt and Stuttgart, with a medieval old town that makes it a rewarding destination beyond the conference itself.
