The Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium is the main venue for research on privacy technology: anonymous communication, censorship resistance, differential privacy, private machine learning, tracking measurement and the policy questions around them. It suits researchers building or breaking privacy systems, and it is more applied than the cryptography venues while more technical than the policy ones. PETS does not work like most conferences: papers go to Proceedings on Privacy Enhancing Technologies, a journal, through a rolling review process with four submission issues a year, each notifying two months later, and all four are firm. The last issue that can still reach a given symposium closes several months before it. Ranked A by CORE, with an acceptance rate of 26.0% in 2025.
