Summary
For conference goers, Copenhagen offers world-class facilities in a city that balances history, innovation, and sustainability, creating an inspiring setting for professional and cultural exchange.
- Nyhavn - The colourful canal harbour; best enjoyed with a beer on the quayside rather than in the overpriced tourist restaurants that line it.
- Torvehallerne food market - Covered market halls near Norreport station; excellent for smorrebrød (open sandwiches), fresh pastries, and coffee.
- Louisiana Museum of Modern Art - 45 minutes north by train; a world-class modern art museum with sculpture gardens dropping down to the Oresund Sound - one of the finest museum settings anywhere.
- Freetown Christiania - The famous self-governing commune in the heart of the city; wander the car-free streets and Pusher Street, and eat at one of the communal restaurants.
- Cycling anywhere - Copenhagen has the world’s best cycling infrastructure; rent a bike and join the commuters on the dedicated cycle highways.
- Day trip to Malmo - 35 minutes by train over the Oresund Bridge; Sweden’s third city has an excellent old town and a completely different atmosphere from Copenhagen.
Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is just 8 km from the city centre. The Metro runs directly from the terminal to Kongens Nytorv (near many hotels) in 15 min (~40 DKK / ~6 USD). Trains also connect to Copenhagen Central Station. Taxis cost around 300-350 DKK (40-50 USD).
Copenhagen is one of Europe’s most cycling-friendly cities - flat, well-marked, and with widespread bike rental options. The Metro (2 lines + new Cityringen circle line) and S-Tog suburban rail cover the rest. A 24-hour pass is around 100 DKK (~14 USD). The city centre is very walkable between the main conference venues and hotels.
May-August is the prime season - long days, warm temperatures (18-25C), and the city at its most vibrant. June brings near-constant daylight. September-October is pleasant for conferences with fewer tourists. Winter (November-March) is cold, dark, and grey but Danes have mastered the hygge of cosy indoor culture - just dress warmly.
