Focuses on composable, modular architectures for building data management systems from reusable components. The argument is that monolithic database systems repeatedly reimplement the same components, and that composable architectures built from reusable execution engines, formats and optimisers would let the field stop rebuilding foundations. The counter-argument, that composability costs performance at every boundary, is part of the discussion rather than settled.
