An interdisciplinary workshop on how auditory and visual speech information combine in human perception and machine recognition, spanning psychology, engineering, neuroscience, and linguistics. Genuinely interdisciplinary rather than nominally so, drawing psychologists and neuroscientists alongside engineers. The shared subject is that human speech perception is audiovisual by default, which recognition systems have historically ignored. Held October 2 at Western Sydney University.
