Explores applied AI and machine learning techniques inside database systems and data-intensive applications. Distinct from using databases for AI: this is machine learning inside the database engine, for query optimisation, cardinality estimation, indexing and configuration tuning, where a learned component must be at least as reliable as the heuristic it replaces. A learned optimiser that is usually better and occasionally catastrophic is worse than a predictable one.
