SOUPS is the leading venue for usable privacy and security: research on how people actually interact with security and privacy systems, and why those systems so often fail at the human end rather than the technical one. Typical work covers authentication and passwords, phishing, permissions and consent interfaces, privacy behaviour, and security for at-risk groups.
The 23rd edition runs August 8 to 10, 2027 in Denver. The venue has not been announced.
The timing is the thing to plan around. USENIX Security 2027 runs August 11 to 13 in Denver, at the Hyatt Regency, which means SOUPS finishes on the Tuesday and USENIX Security opens on the Wednesday with no gap. The two have been co-located for years, so one trip covers both, and for anyone travelling to the United States that turns a three-day conference into most of a working week for one set of flights.
SOUPS was promoted from B to A in the 2026 ICORE round, one of only three conferences to make that move. Human-factors security has spent a long time being treated as adjacent to real security research, and the reclassification is a straightforward correction, but departmental venue lists that have not been refreshed will still show it as a B.
