Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention — 2027

MICCAI is the leading conference for medical image computing and computer assisted intervention, covering segmentation, registration, image-guided surgery, surgical robotics and the deep learning methods that now run through all of it. It is CORE A and draws clinicians alongside computer scientists, which gives it a different texture from a pure vision conference.

The 30th edition runs September 27 to October 1, 2027 in Auckland, the first time MICCAI has been held in New Zealand, with close to 3,000 delegates expected. The announced theme is equitable healthcare, with an emphasis on outcomes for Maori and Pacific peoples and on regional health-tech capacity.

The venue is the New Zealand International Convention Centre on Hobson Street, according to Auckland Unlimited, the city agency that secured the event, and several business-events outlets. MICCAI’s own announcement names the city and dates but not the building, so treat the venue as very likely rather than formally confirmed by the organisers. Every hotel on this page is within 800 m of it either way.

Two things worth planning for. Auckland is a long way from everywhere: 24 hours or more from Europe, around 13 from the US west coast, so this is a trip to build extra days around. And late September in the southern hemisphere is early spring, roughly 15 to 18C and changeable, which is not what the date implies to anyone travelling from the north.

Note also that IROS 2027 runs September 26 to October 1 in Florence, so the two overlap almost completely. If your work spans surgical robotics and medical imaging, you will have to pick one.
