ICFP is the ACM SIGPLAN conference on functional programming, covering language design and implementation, type systems, semantics, verification and the practice of functional programming in industry. It is the central venue for the field and draws a notably mixed academic and industrial audience.

The 2027 edition runs September 26 to October 1 at the Van der Valk Hotel Nijmegen-Lent. The main conference is Monday to Wednesday, with co-located events on the Sunday, Thursday and Friday, so the length of your trip depends entirely on which workshops you want. Papers close February 25, 2027 and camera-ready copy is due July 1. Talks are recorded and published, though co-located events are not.

Note where the venue is. Lent is on the north bank of the Waal, in the newer part of the city across the river, while essentially all of Nijmegen’s hotels are in the centre on the south bank about 2.2 km away. The venue is itself a hotel, so staying on site removes the crossing entirely; anything else means a walk over the Waalbrug, a short bus ride or, as most of the Netherlands would, a bike.

Nijmegen has a strong year in 2027: FSCD and CADE are both expected in the city in August, five weeks before ICFP, though neither has published exact dates yet.
