Prague sits at the heart of Central Europe with one of the most intact historic centres on the continent. The Old Town, Jewish Quarter, and Castle District form a UNESCO-listed core that draws millions of visitors, but the city also has a thriving modern tech and startup scene and a well-developed conference infrastructure. For conference attendees, Prague offers exceptional value compared to Western European capitals - hotels, restaurants, and transport are all significantly cheaper than London, Paris, or Amsterdam, and the food and beer culture is outstanding. The Clarion Congress Hotel in Prague 9 Vysocany hosts major academic conferences and sits directly above the Vysocanska metro station, making the journey to the city centre a ten-minute ride. The Old Town is compact and very walkable once you arrive.
- Old Town Square - The astronomical clock and Gothic Tyn Church at the centre of the medieval city; best seen before 9am when tour groups have not yet arrived.
- Josefov (Jewish Quarter) - The remarkably intact former Jewish ghetto with six synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery; buy a combined ticket for all the sites.
- Vltava River cruise - Short evening boat trips past the Charles Bridge and under the illuminated castle are a low-key and very pleasant way to see the city.
- Vinohrady neighbourhood - The best area for dinner and evening drinks away from the tourist centre; excellent Czech restaurants and wine bars along Namesti Miru.
- Prague Castle complex - The largest ancient castle in the world by area; go early for St Vitus Cathedral and linger in the Golden Lane.
- Day trip to Cesky Krumlov - 3 hours south by bus; a perfectly preserved medieval town with a castle above a river bend that consistently ranks among the most beautiful in Central Europe.
Vaclav Havel Airport (PRG) is 17 km northwest. The Airport Express bus reaches the Main Train Station in 45 min (~100 CZK / ~4 EUR). Public bus 119 connects to the Veleslavin Metro station (30 min, ~40 CZK). Taxis should be pre-booked through reputable companies - street taxis at the airport have a history of overcharging. Uber operates from the airport.
Prague’s public transport (Metro, trams, buses) is integrated and excellent. Buy a 24-hour pass (~120 CZK / ~5 EUR) or 3-day pass from any Metro station. The historic centre is very walkable but extremely hilly in parts. Trams serve the riverside and Old Town well. The Old Town and Mala Strana areas on foot are genuinely unmissable.
Spring (April-May) and early autumn (September-October) are ideal at 15-22C with long days. July-August is warm and very crowded with tourists. Winter (December-February) is cold (-5 to 5C) but the city’s Christmas markets and atmospheric snow make it worthwhile - dress warmly. Easter and Christmas periods see accommodation prices spike.

Prague needs care, because the main congress venue is not where visitors expect. The Clarion Congress Hotel is in Prague 9 at Vysocanska, about 6 km north-east of the old town, and the hotel set reflects that: two properties sit on the venue itself and everything else is 5 to 8 km away in the centre. The venue hotel is the convenient choice and it fills first. Otherwise the metro line B runs from Vysocanska straight into the centre in about fifteen minutes, which makes staying in the old town or Vinohrady perfectly workable and much better for evenings. Do not book somewhere central assuming you can walk, and do not assume the venue is near Charles Bridge. Prague is cheap relative to western Europe and the public transport is excellent, so the commute costs time rather than money.
