Prague Czech Republic
Prague sits at the heart of Central Europe with one of the most intact historic centres on the continent. The Old Town, Jewish Quarter, and Castle District form a UNESCO-listed core that draws millions of visitors, but the city also has a thriving modern tech and startup scene and a well-developed conference infrastructure. For conference attendees, Prague offers exceptional value compared to Western European capitals - hotels, restaurants, and transport are all significantly cheaper than London, Paris, or Amsterdam, and the food and beer culture is outstanding. The Clarion Congress Hotel in Prague 9 Vysocany hosts major academic conferences and sits directly above the Vysocanska metro station, making the journey to the city centre a ten-minute ride. The Old Town is compact and very walkable once you arrive.
Getting Around
Prague Vaclav Havel Airport (PRG) has direct connections to most major European hubs and several transatlantic routes. The Airport Express bus connects to Prague Main Station in around 35 minutes. The metro has three lines (A, B, C) and covers the city efficiently; a single ticket or 24-hour pass covers all public transport. The Vysocanska station (line B, yellow) connects the Clarion Congress Hotel directly to the city centre in around ten minutes. Taxis and rideshares (Bolt is widely used) are cheap by Western European standards.
Best Time to Visit
May and September are the best months - warm, long days, and fewer crowds than the summer peak. Late September and early October, when SOSP takes place, is an excellent window: autumn colour is starting, temperatures are comfortable at 12-18 degrees Celsius, and the city is calmer after the summer tourist rush.
