Best Hotels for STOC 2026 Salt Lake City
STOC 2026 - the 58th ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing - runs June 22-26 in Salt Lake City, with TheoryFest programming continuing through June 27. It’s the A* flagship for theoretical computer science: algorithms, complexity, cryptography foundations, and the mathematical underpinnings of computing. If you’re going, you have about two weeks to book accommodation.
The conference hotel is the Hilton Salt Lake City Center at 255 South West Temple. A room block was available at $189 per night until June 6 — that block has now closed, but rooms at the hotel may still be bookable at market rates.
Salt Lake City is one of the more practical conference cities in the US. The downtown grid is compact and walkable, the TRAX light rail runs free within the downtown fare-free zone, and the airport is 15 minutes from the city centre by train. The whole hotel district is within a few blocks of itself — unlike spread-out cities like Las Vegas or LA, location choice here is mostly about tier and amenities rather than commute.
The conference hotel
Hilton Salt Lake City Center is the STOC 2026 venue at 255 South West Temple. Full-service four-star with a pool, fitness centre, restaurant, and bar. Staying here puts you in the conference building. The room block rate has closed but the hotel is worth checking directly for remaining availability.
Good for: presenters, session chairs, anyone who wants zero commute to sessions.
Splurge: the Main Street corridor
Grand America Hotel is Salt Lake City’s flagship five-star property — a 775-room European-style grand hotel on South Main Street with an indoor and outdoor pool, a full spa, afternoon tea service, and some of the largest standard rooms in the city. The kind of hotel that justifies staying an extra night.
Little America Hotel sits adjacent to the Grand America on the same block and shares a similar character at a lower price point. Large rooms, outdoor pool, multiple restaurants, and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. One of the best-value four-star options in the city.
Good for: senior researchers, industry attendees, anyone treating the trip as a proper stay rather than just a bed.
Four-star downtown: well-located, solid amenities
Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek is the closest major hotel to Temple Square and the Salt Palace Convention Center area on West Temple. Reliable Marriott amenities, indoor pool, and the most central location of any hotel in this list.
Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City is a boutique four-star on 200 South with bold design, a morning coffee and evening wine hour included, and the Kimpton pet-friendly policy if you’re bringing a dog. One of the more characterful options in downtown SLC.
AC Hotel by Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown is a sleek modern property on 200 West with clean design-forward rooms. A strong pick if you want contemporary without the boutique premium.
Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown is a full-service four-star on West South Temple with a pool and fitness centre. Reliable, well-located, and consistently priced below the Marriott.
Good for: mid-career researchers, industry attendees, anyone who wants a full-service hotel without grand hotel rates.
Three-star value: good rooms, lower price
Hyatt Place Salt Lake City Downtown and Hyatt House Salt Lake City Downtown are two different Hyatt properties on the west side of downtown. The Place is a standard extended-stay format with included breakfast; the House leans toward longer stays with suite-style rooms and kitchen facilities. Both are reliable and well-priced.
Residence Inn by Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown is a suite-style property on Broadway (300 South) with full kitchens — useful for a five-day conference stay when you want to eat in occasionally and stretch the per diem further.
Holiday Inn Express Salt Lake City Downtown offers the basics well: free breakfast, a fitness centre, and a central location at one of the lower price points in the downtown hotel cluster.
Salt Lake Plaza Hotel is a mid-range option on South Temple within easy walking distance of the main conference area. No frills beyond the essentials, at pricing that makes it one of the more affordable non-hostel options downtown.
Good for: academic researchers on department travel budgets, postdocs, anyone who wants a clean room in a good location without paying four-star rates.
Budget
Bposhtels SLC is a hostel on Kelsey Avenue near Liberty Park, a short TRAX ride from downtown. Private and dorm rooms, the lowest price point in Salt Lake City.
Good for: PhD students, first-time conference attendees on a very tight budget.
Booking tips for STOC 2026
The free-fare TRAX zone covers the whole downtown. The light rail runs free within the downtown Salt Lake City area, which means you can stay anywhere in the central grid without worrying about transport costs to the venue. The airport TRAX line also connects directly to downtown in about 25 minutes for around $2.50 each way.
June in Utah is warm and dry. Expect temperatures around 32-35°C during the day, dropping to a comfortable 18-20°C in the evenings. The dry desert air makes the heat more manageable than humid East Coast summers, but sunscreen and water are non-negotiable.
The mountains are close. The Wasatch Range begins almost at the edge of the city. If you have a free afternoon, Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon are 30-40 minutes by car and offer hiking at elevation well above the summer heat. The Bonneville Salt Flats - one of the most otherworldly landscapes in North America - are an hour west via I-80. The Bonneville Salt Flats Adventure tour is worth considering if you have a day before or after the conference.
Antelope Island at sunset is worth planning around. The island sits in the Great Salt Lake, connected to the mainland by a causeway about 45 minutes from downtown. The Antelope Island Wildlife Sunset Tour covers bison herds, migrating birds, and one of the better sunsets in the western US - and fits comfortably into a conference evening given Utah’s long June daylight hours.
