Aliasing, Capabilities and Ownership

IWACO: International Workshop on Aliasing, Capabilities and Ownership

In conjunction with
International Conference on Systems, Programming, Languages and Applications - Software for Humanity 2026
October 3-9, 2026
Oakland Marriott City Center
Oakland, California, United States

Programming Software Engineering

IWACO covers techniques that use capabilities and ownership to tame aliasing and prevent its misuse. Shared mutable state reached through multiple pointers is a root cause of data races, unexpected side effects and whole classes of memory safety bugs, and the workshop gathers work on ownership types, capabilities, separation logic, uniqueness and related mechanisms for controlling it. It is a long-running SPLASH satellite and has become one of the natural venues for research connected to Rust’s ownership model.
