Sorrento Italy

Sorrento perches on tuff cliffs above the Bay of Naples, looking across the water to Vesuvius, with lemon groves running down to the marinas below. It has hosted international meetings for decades thanks to large hilltop conference hotels and an unbeatable location: Pompeii is 30 minutes away, Capri 25 by fast ferry, and the Amalfi Coast begins over the ridge. Late June and July bring full summer, warm swimming, and long evenings on Piazza Tasso.

What to Do
  • Capri by ferry - 25 minutes to the island; go early, ride the chairlift up Monte Solaro, and skip the midday crush.
  • Pompeii - 30 minutes on the Circumvesuviana; combine with Vesuvius for a full day.
  • Marina Grande - the old fishing harbor’s seafood restaurants at sunset.
  • Bagni della Regina Giovanna - the swimmable Roman ruin cove a walk west of town.
Getting There

Naples International (NAP) is the gateway, about 75 minutes by the direct Curreri coach or an hour by car. From Naples, the Circumvesuviana train (about 70 minutes) and seasonal fast ferries are the alternatives.

Getting Around

The town center is walkable, with lifts and stairs linking the cliff top to the marinas. The Circumvesuviana railway and the Curreri airport coach connect to Naples; ferries run to Capri, Ischia, and Naples; SITA buses ply the Amalfi road. A scooter or the ferry beats driving in summer.

Weather & Timing

April-June and September-October are ideal (22-28C, fewer crowds). Late June and July, when ISIT 2027 runs, are hot (28-32C) and lively; book everything early because this is peak resort season.
