Local Vibe
San Diego moves at a comfortable pace. Mornings often start with coffee and surf, while evenings are spent outdoors, watching the sunset over the Pacific. Visitors find it easy to combine work and leisure, often extending their stay to enjoy the beaches, parks, and warm coastal air.
Balboa Park is one of the great urban parks in North America, with multiple world-class museums and the San Diego Zoo on its grounds. The Gaslamp Quarter offers a concentrated dining and nightlife district a short walk from the Convention Center. La Jolla Cove, about 20 minutes north, has sea caves and swimming. The craft beer scene is exceptionally strong, with dozens of respected breweries in North Park, Little Italy, and throughout the city.
San Diego International Airport (SAN) is one of the most centrally located major airports in the US, just 3 miles from downtown. The MTS Route 992 bus runs from the terminal to downtown in about 15 minutes, and taxis and rideshares are plentiful.
The MTS Trolley covers downtown, the Convention Center, Old Town, and reaches the US-Mexico border at San Ysidro. The Gaslamp Quarter and waterfront are very walkable. Rideshare is widely available for trips beyond the trolley network.
San Diego has one of the most consistent climates in the US - mild year-round with temperatures rarely below 10C or above 30C. The marine layer brings morning clouds from May to June (“June Gloom”) but the rest of the year is reliably sunny. Any month works well for a conference visit.
