Summary
For conference goers, Saint-Malo offers more than meeting spaces. It is a unique coastal city where history, cuisine, and seaside landscapes provide an inspiring backdrop to professional gatherings.
The walled city (Intra-Muros) of Saint-Malo is one of the finest preserved corsair ports in Europe - walking the full circuit of the ramparts takes about 45 minutes and gives dramatic views over the sea and to the rocky islets offshore. The Musee d’Histoire de Saint-Malo in the castle keep covers the history of the corsairs (licensed French pirates) who made the city famous. Mont Saint-Michel, the extraordinary medieval abbey-island on a tidal flat, is about 50 km east and easily done as a half-day trip. Brittany seafood - oysters, mussels, crab, and the local shrimp (bigorneaux) - is excellent throughout the region, and the galettes and crepes of the area are the best in France.
Rennes-Saint-Jacques Airport (RNS) is the nearest regional airport, about 70 km south, with connections to Paris Orly and some European cities. Paris Roissy-CDG to Rennes by TGV takes about 2 hours, then 1 hour by regional train to Saint-Malo - making Paris the effective gateway for international arrivals.
Saint-Malo is a small city where the Intra-Muros (walled city) is entirely pedestrianized and walkable. The wider town of Saint-Malo including Saint-Servan and Paramé is served by Bus Malo local buses. Taxis are available. A car is useful for day trips to the surrounding Brittany coast and Mont Saint-Michel.
May to September offers the best weather for enjoying the ramparts and beaches, with July and August being peak tourist season. June and September are excellent trade-offs with good weather and fewer crowds. Winters are mild by French standards but can be stormy from the Atlantic.
