Sacramento United States

Sacramento is the capital of California and the seat of state government, situated at the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers in the Central Valley. The city has a well-preserved historic core around Old Sacramento and Capitol Mall, a strong farm-to-fork food scene, and a compact downtown convention district. For conference attendees, Sacramento International Airport (SMF) has direct connections to major US hubs including Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, and Chicago, with some limited international service. The Sacramento Convention Center and its surrounding hotel corridor are within easy walking distance of the downtown restaurants, bars, and attractions along K Street and the riverfront. The city is about 90 minutes from San Francisco by road or Amtrak Capitol Corridor train, making it accessible for attendees flying into SFO.

What to Do

Old Sacramento Waterfront has preserved Gold Rush-era buildings along the Sacramento River, with the California State Railroad Museum as the main attraction. The State Capitol building and museum are open to visitors in the central district. Midtown Sacramento has the city’s best restaurant and bar scene, and the Saturday Farmers Market at Cesar Chavez Plaza is excellent. The Farm-to-Fork capital reputation is well-earned, with dozens of restaurants sourcing from the surrounding Central Valley.

Getting There

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is about 12 miles northwest of downtown. The Yolobus Route 42A connects the airport to the Amtrak station and downtown Sacramento in about 40 minutes; rideshare is faster at 20-25 minutes with no traffic.

Getting Around

The Sacramento RT light rail covers downtown, Midtown, and extends to the suburbs. The central grid of downtown and Midtown Sacramento is very walkable and bikeable, with flat streets and a strong cycling culture. Rideshare is available citywide.

Weather & Timing

Spring (March-May) is ideal for Sacramento - warm, with wildflowers and the Delta breezes keeping temperatures comfortable. Summers are very hot (regularly above 38C) and best avoided for outdoor activities. Autumn is pleasant and mild; winters are cool and foggy but rarely cold.
