Summary
Riyadh offers conference attendees a chance to balance professional commitments with cultural discovery, modern comforts, and memorable desert landscapes—all within a city that is rapidly becoming a global hub.
Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the edge of the city, is the ancestral home of the Al Saud royal family and the original Saudi capital - the restored mud-brick At-Turaif District is impressive. The National Museum of Saudi Arabia in the Al-Murabba district covers the full arc of Arabian history and is one of the better national museums in the region. Kingdom Centre Tower’s sky bridge observation deck offers panoramic views across the city. The Riyadh Season events (October-March) bring major entertainment events, concerts, and festivals to the city that have transformed the visitor offer in recent years.
King Khalid International Airport (RUH) is about 35 km north of central Riyadh. The Riyadh Metro Red Line now connects the airport to the city, taking about 40 minutes to King Abdullah Financial District station. Taxis and rideshare (Uber, Careem) are also available.
The Riyadh Metro, completed in 2024, has 6 lines covering major parts of the city and significantly improves public transit options. Uber and Careem are widely used and practical for reaching areas not on the metro. The city is very spread out and a car or rideshare is needed for most journeys.
November to March is the only truly comfortable outdoor season, with temperatures between 10-25C. April and October are transition months. From May to September temperatures regularly exceed 40C, and outdoor activities shift almost entirely to early morning or after dark.
