- Canal Saint-Martin - An atmospheric canal neighbourhood in the 10th; excellent for a weekend morning walk, brunch, and independent boutiques.
- Sainte-Chapelle - Often overlooked in favour of Notre-Dame next door; the 13th-century stained glass is among the most extraordinary in existence.
- Versailles half-day - 40 minutes by RER C; go on a weekday morning to beat the crowds and focus on the gardens rather than the state apartments.
- Belleville and Menilmontant - The most interesting parts of the Right Bank for contemporary art, multicultural food markets, and the city’s best street art.
Charles de Gaulle (CDG) handles most intercontinental flights, 45 min from city centre by RER B (~12 EUR). Orly (ORY) is closer (35 min by Orlyval then RER B, ~14 EUR) and serves many European routes. Taxis from CDG run 55-70 EUR. Beauvais (BVA) is very far - budget 90 min and 17 EUR by shuttle bus.
The Paris Metro is fast, cheap, and runs until ~1am (later on weekends). A carnet of 10 tickets or a day pass (Navigo Jour, ~9 EUR) covers Metro, RER, and buses. The city centre is walkable between many major venues. Velib bike-share is widespread. Avoid taxis at rush hour.
Spring (April-June) is the classic time to visit: mild temperatures of 16-22C, long evenings, and manageable crowds. September-October is equally pleasant. July-August brings heat and packed tourist sites. Winter conferences (January-February) are cold but uncrowded and hotel rates drop significantly.
