What to Do

The Paphos Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing extraordinarily well-preserved Roman-era mosaics from the House of Dionysus, House of Theseus, and other villas - among the finest Roman floor mosaics anywhere in the world. The Tombs of the Kings, an underground necropolis carved from rock dating to the 3rd century BC, is nearby and evocative. Aphrodite’s Rock (Petra tou Romiou) along the coastal highway east of Paphos is where, according to tradition, Aphrodite emerged from the sea - a picturesque coastal landmark. The Paphos Harbor, flanked by the medieval fort, is a pleasant evening stroll with restaurants along the seafront.

Getting There

Paphos International Airport (PFO) is 10 km east of the city center and is the most convenient entry point for the Paphos area. No rail connects the airport to town; taxis are the primary option for the 15-20 minute journey. Larnaca Airport (LCA) is further east (1.5 hours) but has more international connections.

Getting Around

Paphos has a local bus network (OSYPA) covering the main sites, though services can be infrequent. Taxis are widely available and the standard option for getting between the harbor, the archaeological sites, and the broader coastal resort strip. Renting a car is very practical for exploring the wider Paphos district and the Troodos mountains.

Weather & Timing

Spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November) are ideal for Paphos, with warm temperatures of 20-26C, clear skies, and fewer visitors than peak summer. Summer (June-September) is very hot, regularly above 35C, and the main resort season. Winters are mild and sunny by European standards - a popular winter sun destination.
