Nashville is known as Music City and offers much more than just country music. If you are in town for a conference you may want to extend your stay to enjoy its vibrant live music scene, Southern cuisine, and welcoming atmosphere. The city has historic neighborhoods like Germantown and East Nashville along with a lively downtown filled with honky tonks and rooftop bars. Visitors can also explore the Country Music Hall of Fame, local art galleries, and the scenic Cumberland River. Nashville blends professional opportunities with cultural experiences making it a great place to stay longer after a conference.
Lower Broadway is a dense stretch of live music venues, bars, and restaurants that operate around the clock - the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium are both nearby. The Country Music Hall of Fame and the Johnny Cash Museum are the standout indoor cultural attractions. The 12 South and East Nashville neighborhoods have excellent independent restaurants and coffee shops. The Parthenon in Centennial Park is a full-scale replica housing an art museum - genuinely one of the stranger and more interesting things to stumble upon in any US city.
Nashville International Airport (BNA) is 8 miles from downtown. No rail service connects the airport to the city; rideshare and taxis are the main options, with the journey taking 15-25 minutes depending on traffic.
Nashville has limited public transit (WeGo buses and a short streetcar on Broadway). Rideshare is by far the most practical way to get around. The lower Broadway honky-tonk district is walkable once you’re there, but getting between neighborhoods typically requires a car or rideshare.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (October-November) are the most pleasant, with comfortable temperatures and less humidity than summer. Summers are hot and humid but the city’s bar and music venues are air-conditioned. Winters are mild by US standards.
