Miami Beach United States

Miami Beach occupies a barrier island separated from mainland Miami by Biscayne Bay and connected by several causeways. The city divides into distinct neighborhoods: South Beach (SoBe) with Art Deco hotels on Ocean Drive and beach clubs on Collins Avenue; Mid-Beach around the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc hotels; and the quieter North Beach area. The Miami Beach Convention Center is the main large-scale event venue, adjacent to South Beach and a short walk from Lincoln Road’s pedestrianized shops, restaurants, and people-watching. The city has a vibrant international food scene with strong Cuban, Haitian, Brazilian, and Argentine influences alongside high-end dining. Miami International Airport (MIA) is about 20 minutes west by taxi or the Miami Beach Airport Express bus. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), about 40 minutes north, often offers lower fares for the same destination.

What to Do
  • Art Deco Historic District - The largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world, centered on Ocean Drive and the streets behind it; free self-guided walking tours available.

  • Wynwood Walls - 30 minutes from Miami Beach by Uber, the outdoor street art museum in the Wynwood neighborhood is one of the best in the country.

  • Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) - Excellent contemporary art museum on Biscayne Bay with significant Latin American and Caribbean collection.

  • Vizcaya Museum and Gardens - Spectacular early 20th-century Italian Renaissance estate on Biscayne Bay, one of the great historic house museums in the US.

  • Little Havana - Calle Ocho and the surrounding neighborhood offer authentic Cuban coffee, cigars, and dominoes at Domino Park.

Getting There

Miami International Airport (MIA) is the primary gateway, about 20 minutes by taxi. The Miami Beach Airport Express bus (Route 150) runs frequently for about $2.25. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is about 40 minutes north and often has cheaper fares, especially on Southwest, Spirit, and JetBlue.

Getting Around

The Miami Beach Trolley runs free routes along Collins Avenue, Washington Avenue, and to the Convention Center area. Miami-Dade Transit routes connect to the mainland via the MacArthur Causeway. Ride-sharing is widely used. South Beach is very walkable. The Citi Bike Miami system covers much of the island.

Weather & Timing

November through April is the best time for Miami Beach: warm, sunny, low humidity, and the peak of the cultural season. Summers are hot, humid, and prone to afternoon thunderstorms and occasional hurricane risk through October.
