Summary
For conference goers, Marrakech offers a dynamic mix of professional facilities and cultural discovery, turning every visit into a memorable experience.
Jemaa el-Fnaa square is the social and commercial heart of the medina and one of the great public spaces in the world, transforming from a daytime market to an evening carnival of food stalls, storytellers, musicians, and acrobats. The souqs stretching north of the square cover textiles, spices, leather (the tanneries of Chouara are visible from surrounding terrace cafes), metalwork, and ceramics. The Saadian Tombs, the Medersa Ben Youssef, and the Bahia Palace are the must-see historic sites. Day trips to the Atlas Mountains and the Ourika Valley are possible in half a day from the city.
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is 6 km from the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, with bus Route 19 and metered taxis serving the journey. The Marrakech Express train connects to Casablanca (about 3 hours), though most international arrivals come directly into Marrakech.
The medina is best explored on foot, though the narrow souq streets require patience and a willingness to get lost. Petits taxis (red in Marrakech) cover the medina fringes and the Gueliz (new city) area. Horse-drawn caleches are a traditional option for the evening Jemaa el-Fnaa circuit. The medina walls are a 30-40 minute walk around.
March to May and October to November offer the most comfortable temperatures (20-25C) for exploring the souqs and outdoor spaces. Summer (June-August) is very hot, regularly exceeding 38C in the medina. December and January are cool and pleasant with little rain.
