Manama Bahrain

Manama is the capital and largest city of Bahrain, a small island nation in the Persian Gulf with outsized ambitions as a regional hub for finance, technology, and international events. The city centre offers a compact mix of modern towers, traditional gold and spice souks, and waterfront promenades along the Corniche. For conference attendees, Bahrain is a convenient Gulf hub with direct flights from Europe, Asia, and across the Middle East, visa-on-arrival or easy e-visa for most nationalities, and a well-developed hotel infrastructure. Exhibition World Bahrain, the country flagship congress and exhibition venue, is located in Sakhir about 30km south of the city centre near the Formula 1 circuit - a short taxi or rideshare ride from most hotels.

Getting Around

Bahrain International Airport (BAH) is well connected to major hubs across Europe, Asia, and the Gulf. Taxis and rideshares (Uber and local apps) are the primary transport within the country - Bahrain is small enough that most journeys take under 45 minutes. There is no metro. The highway network is good and driving distances are short; many attendees use hotel shuttles or hire a car for the duration.

Best Time to Visit

November to March offers the most comfortable weather, with temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius and little rain. The main DEF CON Middle East event in November falls in an ideal window - warm but not the oppressive heat of the Gulf summer. Avoid June through September when temperatures regularly exceed 40 degrees Celsius with high humidity.
