Long Beach sits on the southern edge of Los Angeles County with a character distinctly its own - a working port city with a lively waterfront, art deco architecture, and a creative district that sets it apart from the sprawl to the north. For conference attendees, it is a practical and pleasant destination: the Long Beach Convention Center sits directly on the waterfront, most official conference hotels are within easy walking distance, and the compact downtown means you can get between sessions, restaurants, and the waterfront without a car. The city is well connected to Los Angeles by the Metro A Line and to the broader region via Long Beach Airport (LGB) and nearby LAX. The Aquarium of the Pacific, the Queen Mary, and the Belmont Shore neighbourhood offer easy alternatives for those arriving early or staying on.

Getting Around

Long Beach Airport (LGB) is the most convenient arrival point, with direct flights from many US cities. LAX is 25 miles north and accessible by rideshare in 30-50 minutes outside peak traffic. The convention centre area and downtown are very walkable. The Metro A Line connects downtown Long Beach to Los Angeles in around 60-70 minutes. Rideshare covers everything else. Avoid driving into central Los Angeles during conference hours.

Best Time to Visit

May is an excellent time to visit Long Beach. The marine layer clears by mid-morning, temperatures sit around 18-22 degrees Celsius, and summer crowds have not yet arrived. PyCon US in May lands in one of the most comfortable windows on the Southern California coast.
