Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas is known worldwide for its energy, entertainment, and nonstop action. Beyond the neon lights, it has become a major hub for conferences and conventions, attracting global audiences each year.

Why Stay Longer

  • World class venues such as the Las Vegas Convention Center and major resort conference halls host some of the largest industry events
  • Entertainment capital with shows, concerts, and nightlife experiences unlike anywhere else
  • Dining destination offering everything from celebrity chef restaurants to unique local finds
  • Outdoor escapes with nearby day trips to Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon
What to Do
  • The Strip walk - The 6.5 km stretch from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere is best experienced on foot at night; distances are deceptive so wear comfortable shoes.
  • Free casino spectacles - The Bellagio fountains (every 15-30 min), the Mirage volcano (evenings), and the Fremont Street Experience light show are all free.
  • Day trip to Red Rock Canyon - 30 minutes west; stunning sandstone formations and hiking trails that feel entirely removed from the Strip.
  • Grand Canyon day trip - Helicopter tours from the Strip reach the South Rim in about 45 minutes; bus tours take 4-5 hours each way.
  • Dining - Las Vegas has more celebrity chef restaurants per square mile than anywhere else; book ahead for Joël Robuchon, Nobu, or Bazaar Meat.
  • Arts District - The 18b Arts District on the southwest edge of downtown has galleries, independent restaurants, and First Friday monthly art walks.
Getting There

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is just 5 miles from the Strip. Rideshare and taxis are the main options; the Vegas Loop (Elon Musk’s underground transit tunnel) connects certain resorts. There is no direct rail link from the airport to the main hotel corridors.

Getting Around

Las Vegas is a driving city - most conference venues are on or near the Strip and are best reached by taxi, Uber/Lyft, or the free trams that connect some casino hotels. The Las Vegas Monorail runs along the east side of the Strip from MGM Grand to Sahara, useful for moving between venues quickly. The Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is 5-10 minutes from the Strip by rideshare - one of the most convenient airport-to-venue transfers of any major conference city. Walking between venues on the Strip is possible but distances are deceptive - what looks like a 5-minute walk can take 20 minutes inside casino floors. For venues off-Strip (like the Las Vegas Convention Center), rideshares are the practical choice.

Weather & Timing

October to April is the best window for Las Vegas conferences. Temperatures are mild (15-25C) and the desert climate is comfortable. March and November are peak conference season for good reason - weather is near-perfect. May through September brings extreme heat (40C+ in July and August) - the city functions but outdoor movement is uncomfortable and all navigation happens through air-conditioned interiors. December brings the year’s coolest temperatures (10-15C) and is generally a good time to visit if not during the busy holiday weekend periods.

Where to Stay for a Conference

Las Vegas conferences run out of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Venetian Expo, and Mandalay Bay, which are far apart on or near the Strip. Book a hotel attached or adjacent to your specific venue rather than just somewhere on the Strip, since walking the Strip end to end takes well over an hour. The Las Vegas Monorail connects several convention hotels on the east side and is worth factoring into the choice. For CES in particular, rooms sell out months ahead and prices spike, so book as early as registration allows.
