Huntington Beach, branded as Surf City USA, is a city on the Orange County coast of Southern California, about 50 kilometres south of downtown Los Angeles. It is best known for its 14-kilometre stretch of uninterrupted beach, a competitive surf scene, and the International Surfing Museum on Main Street. The pier district at the foot of Main Street has a cluster of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance of the beachfront hotels. For conference attendees, the appeal is the unusual combination of a genuine beach resort setting with easy access to the broader LA and Orange County area via the 405 freeway and nearby John Wayne Airport. The Hyatt Regency on the Pacific Coast Highway is the main conference-capable property and the likely venue for SIGMOD 2027.
- Huntington Beach Pier - The 560-metre pier is the focal point of the city, surrounded by surf shops, restaurants, and the best people-watching on the Orange County coast.
- Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve - A coastal wetland reserve a few kilometres north of the pier with walking trails and prolific birdlife.
- Main Street - A compact pedestrian strip of independent restaurants, surf shops, and bars connecting the pier to the inland areas.
- Surfing - Huntington Beach has some of the most consistent beach break in California; lessons and rentals are available along the pier.
John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Santa Ana is the closest, about 20 km north. Los Angeles International (LAX) is about 50 km north with more international connections. Both connect to Huntington Beach by rideshare in 20-45 minutes depending on traffic.
Huntington Beach is car-dependent outside of the immediate pier and beach area. Rideshare is the most practical option. The pier district is walkable once you are based there. John Wayne Airport (SNA) is about 20 minutes by car.
June is ideal - warm, sunny, and before the peak summer crowds of July-August. Average temperatures of 22-26C with evening sea breezes. Perfect for a conference combining sessions with time on the beach.
