Dublin Ireland
Dublin, the capital of Ireland, sits on the country’s east coast at the mouth of the River Liffey, where it flows into Dublin Bay. Surrounded by rolling green hills and just a short trip from the Irish Sea, it’s a city that blends history and energy in equal measure. Cobbled streets lead past colorful pubs, Georgian townhouses, and lively markets, while music spills out from every corner. From the story-filled walls of Trinity College to the cheerful buzz of Temple Bar, Dublin feels like a warm welcome wrapped in charm, wit, and a bit of Irish magic.
- Trinity College and the Book of Kells - Ireland’s most visited attraction; the Long Room library is as impressive as the medieval manuscript itself.
- Temple Bar - Lively cobbled quarter with live traditional music in the pubs most evenings; The Temple Bar pub and The Brazen Head are the classic stops.
- Guinness Storehouse - More interesting than expected; the rooftop Gravity Bar pint with panoramic city views is the payoff.
- Phoenix Park - One of the largest enclosed city parks in Europe; resident herd of fallow deer wander freely through the grounds.
- Kilmainham Gaol - Deeply moving historic prison where leaders of the 1916 Rising were executed; book the guided tour in advance.
- Day trip to the Wicklow Mountains - 45 minutes south by car or tour bus; Glendalough monastic settlement and the Powerscourt waterfall are both within reach.
Dublin Airport (DUB) is 12 km north of the city center. The Aircoach and Airlink express bus services connect the airport to the city center (O’Connell Street, St Stephen’s Green) in about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. No rail currently serves the airport, though a new Metro North line is planned.
Dublin is a compact city and many conference venues are within walking distance of the hotel district. The Luas tram (two lines: Red and Green) covers key areas including the city centre, Docklands (where many tech events cluster), and the suburbs. The Dublin Bus network is comprehensive but slower. Dublin Airport (DUB) connects to the city via the Aircoach or Dublin Express bus services (30-45 minutes to the centre) or taxi/Uber (25-35 minutes depending on traffic). The Dublin Convention Centre is in the Docklands, served by the Luas Red Line and a short walk from the Samuel Beckett Bridge area. The city centre is walkable in good weather - Temple Bar, Dame Street, and the Docklands are all accessible on foot from most central hotels.
Dublin’s climate is mild, wet, and famously changeable. May and June offer the best chance of dry, pleasant weather (15-18C) with long daylight hours. July and August are the warmest months (18-20C) but can still be rainy - this is peak tourist season with higher prices. September and October can be lovely with autumn colours and fewer tourists, though wetter on average. November to March is cool (5-10C), frequently rainy, and dark (sunrise after 8am in December), but hotel rates drop significantly. A waterproof layer is useful in any month.
