Detroit, Michigan United States

Detroit is a city of creativity, resilience, and bold reinvention. Once defined by automotive history, it now blends tech driven innovation with a flourishing arts and culinary scene. Conference visitors will find modern venues, vibrant neighborhoods, and a welcoming spirit shaped by music, industry, and community pride.

What to Expect

Conference attendees can expect a walkable downtown with updated hotels, polished meeting spaces, and easy access to parks and the riverfront. Detroit’s growing cultural districts and historic architecture add character and interest to any conference trip.

Things to Do Before and After the Conference

  • Detroit Riverwalk: Stroll along one of the country’s most celebrated waterfront paths with public art, gardens, and skyline views.
  • Motown History: Visit the birthplace of legendary music at the Motown Museum and explore its rich cultural legacy.
  • Downtown and Campus Martius: Enjoy lively plazas, cafés, winter activities, and modern city spaces.
  • Eastern Market: Wander one of the oldest public markets in the country with produce, murals, and local vendors.
  • Art and Culture: Explore the Detroit Institute of Arts, unique galleries, and creative spaces across Midtown.
  • Food and Neighborhoods: Discover classic Detroit style pizza, international cuisine, and vibrant districts like Corktown and Greektown.

Detroit blends historical depth with modern energy, giving conference goers a memorable and inspiring destination for work and exploration.

What to Do

The Detroit Institute of Arts has one of the finest encyclopedic art collections in the US, including Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry Murals. Motown Museum (Hitsville U.S.A.) is the birthplace of Motown Records and a compelling piece of American music history. Eastern Market, one of the largest historic public markets in the US, is at its best on Saturday mornings. The Dequindre Cut Greenway, a former rail line converted to a pedestrian and cycling path, connects Eastern Market to the RiverWalk. The Detroit food scene has seen a significant revival, with strong breakfast and brunch options in Midtown and Corktown.

Getting There

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is one of the major Delta hubs in the US, about 18 miles southwest of downtown. No rail connects the airport to the city; rideshare and taxis are the main options, taking about 25-35 minutes without traffic.

Getting Around

The QLINE streetcar runs 3.3 miles along Woodward Avenue through Midtown and downtown, useful but limited in coverage. The DDOT and SMART bus systems cover wider areas. Rideshare is the most practical option for most trips. Downtown and Midtown Detroit are more walkable than most visitors expect.

Weather & Timing

Late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) are the most pleasant, with mild temperatures. Summers along the Detroit River can be warm and humid. Winters are cold and grey, with snow from November through March.
