Cupertino United States

Cupertino is a quiet Silicon Valley city in Santa Clara County, best known as the global headquarters of Apple Inc. The city is largely residential and corporate rather than a tourist destination, but the arrival of Apple Park in 2017 gave it a landmark worth visiting. The ring-shaped main building is visible from the adjacent Apple Park Visitor Center on North Tantau Avenue, which offers Apple products for sale and a rooftop terrace with views of the campus. Conference travelers staying in Cupertino are a short drive from San Jose’s downtown restaurant and entertainment district, and about 45 minutes from San Francisco via US-101. The Caltrain station in Mountain View, about 5 km north, provides rail access to San Jose and San Francisco.

What to Do
  • Apple Park Visitor Center - The only public-access point into the Apple Park campus, with an AR model of the campus and current Apple products on display.

  • De Anza College Planetarium - One of the larger community college planetariums in the US, with free public shows.

  • Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve - 4,000 acres of trails above the Santa Clara Valley with valley views, about 10 minutes from central Cupertino.

  • Vallco Shopping Mall area - In transition to a large mixed-use development; the surrounding strip mall food scene covers a wide range of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine.

Getting There

San Jose International Airport (SJC) is about 15 minutes by car. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is about 45 minutes north on US-101. Norman Y. Mineta San Jose Airport has the most direct access.

Getting Around

Cupertino is car-dependent. Ride-sharing (Uber, Lyft) is the practical option for most journeys. The VTA bus network connects to Mountain View Caltrain and San Jose. Apple Park Visitor Center is walkable from the North Tantau Avenue area.

Weather & Timing

Cupertino has a Mediterranean climate with dry summers and mild winters. WWDC in June is warm and clear (20-25C). Rain is possible November through March but rarely disruptive.
