Cleveland United States

Cleveland sits on the southern shore of Lake Erie in northeast Ohio, a city that built its identity on steel and manufacturing before reinventing itself around healthcare, higher education, and culture. Case Western Reserve University and the broader University Circle district form the intellectual core, home to the Cleveland Museum of Art (one of the great encyclopedic art museums in North America with free admission), the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Cleveland Orchestra based at Severance Music Center. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the lakefront is the city’s most famous landmark and worth the visit even for non-enthusiasts. The West Side Market is a century-old covered market hall with a wide range of vendors. Downtown Cleveland has undergone significant investment over the past decade around the Playhouse Square theatre district and the East 4th Street dining corridor. The city is accessible by direct flight from most major US hubs, and conference travel here is notably affordable compared to coastal cities.

What to Do

The Cleveland Museum of Art has one of the finest permanent collections in North America and is free to enter. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the lakefront is genuinely immersive for music history. The West Side Market (open Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat) is a classic covered market. Playhouse Square is the second-largest performing arts complex in the US outside of New York. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is 30 minutes south for hiking and the scenic railway.

Getting There

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) is 12 miles southwest of downtown, served by most major US carriers. The RTA Red Line connects the airport to downtown and University Circle in about 30 minutes for under $3.

Getting Around

The RTA Red Line connects Hopkins International Airport to downtown and University Circle. Uber and Lyft are widely available. The city is navigable by car; parking is inexpensive by major-city standards.
