Charlotte United States
Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and one of the major banking centres of the United States, headquarters to Bank of America and a major US hub for Wells Fargo and Truist. The Uptown district at the city centre is compact and walkable, with the Charlotte Convention Center, the Bechtler and Mint museums, and a growing cluster of breweries and restaurants. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte has a Center City satellite campus in Uptown that hosts conferences and academic events, including the Dubois Center used for DSN 2026. Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is a major American Airlines hub, about 15 minutes from Uptown by light rail or car, with direct connections across the US and to many European cities.
-
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art - Strong mid-century modern collection in a distinctive Mario Botta-designed building in Uptown.
-
Mint Museum Uptown - American art and a strong craft and design collection in the heart of Uptown.
-
NoDa arts district - The arts and music neighbourhood north of Uptown, with breweries, galleries, and a Friday Gallery Crawl.
-
US National Whitewater Center - About 20 minutes west of the city, an Olympic training facility open to the public for rafting, kayaking, climbing, and trails.
-
NASCAR Hall of Fame - For motorsports fans, in Uptown a block from the convention center.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is a major American Airlines hub about 15 minutes from Uptown by car or the Sprinter bus (around 2.50 USD), with direct flights to most US cities, Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, and several European cities including London, Frankfurt, Munich, Madrid, and Rome. CLT consistently ranks among the busiest airports in the US.
The LYNX Blue Line light rail runs from south Charlotte through Uptown to the UNC Charlotte main campus in the north, with stops near most major Uptown venues. The CityLynx Gold Line streetcar runs east-west across Uptown. Walking is comfortable in Uptown. CATS buses cover the wider city. A car is helpful for the suburbs but unnecessary for a conference in Uptown.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are the most pleasant, with mild temperatures and lower humidity. June, when DSN is held, is warm and humid (28-32C) with occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Summer is hot and humid; winters are mild with occasional cold snaps.
