Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city, sits on the country’s southeastern coast where mountains meet the sea along the Korea Strait. Known for its stunning beaches, bustling port, and scenic hills, Busan blends natural beauty with urban energy. One moment you can be strolling along Haeundae Beach or hiking temple-dotted trails, and the next you’re exploring vibrant markets like Jagalchi, full of the day’s freshest seafood. With its mix of modern skyscrapers, traditional culture, and seaside charm, Busan feels like a city that’s always alive with color, flavor, and adventure.
Haeundae Beach is Korea’s most famous urban beach, with a full resort strip and walking distance from the BEXCO convention center. Gamcheon Culture Village is a hillside neighborhood of colorful houses and art installations overlooking the port - one of the most distinctive neighborhoods in Korea. Jagalchi Fish Market at the harbor is the largest seafood market in Korea with excellent raw fish (hoe) and seafood restaurants inside. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple sits directly on the sea cliffs 20 minutes from Haeundae and is one of the few seaside Buddhist temples in Korea.
Gimhae International Airport (PUS) is 15 km from Haeundae Beach and 20 km from the city center, served by domestic routes and flights to Japan, China, and Southeast Asia. The AREX train connects the airport to Sasang station for onward subway connections in about 15 minutes.
Busan Metro (4 lines plus the Donghaeseon light rail) covers the main districts including Haeundae, Seomyeon, and the port area. Kakao T for taxis and rideshare is widely used. The city is hilly and some neighborhoods require taxis or buses to navigate.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are ideal for Busan, with mild weather and clear skies. Summer (July-August) brings warm sea temperatures, beach crowds, and the Busan International Film Festival in October is a major annual event. Winters are milder than Seoul but still cold.
