Bridgetown Barbados

Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, pairs a UNESCO-listed colonial center with the beach life the island is famous for: the south coast’s hotels run from the edge of town through Rockley and St. Lawrence Gap, and the calm west-coast beaches are half an hour away. February, when Financial Cryptography traditionally lands here, is the dry-season sweet spot: 28-30C, low humidity, and sea like bathwater. English is the language, the island is compact, and direct flights arrive from London, Miami, New York, and Toronto.

What to Do
  • Carlisle Bay - swim with turtles off the beach or by catamaran, right by Bridgetown.
  • Oistins Fish Fry - the Friday-night institution: grilled marlin, rum, and music.
  • Harrison’s Cave - the crystallized limestone cavern in the island’s center.
  • Mount Gay distillery - a tour of the world’s oldest rum brand, minutes from town.
Getting There

Grantley Adams International (BGI) is 30 minutes from Bridgetown and 15-20 from the south-coast hotels, with direct flights from London (LHR/LGW), New York, Miami, Toronto, and across the Caribbean.

Getting Around

Reliable route taxis (ZRs) and buses run the coastal roads cheaply; regular taxis have fixed zone fares - agree the price first. Most conference visitors stay on the south coast and walk the boardwalk. A rental car (left-hand drive) suits island explorers.

Weather & Timing

December to April is the dry season and high season: sunny, breezy, 28-30C. February is close to perfect. June to November is hurricane season, though Barbados sits south of most tracks.
