Boca Raton sits on the Atlantic coast of Palm Beach County, roughly halfway between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. It is a deliberately planned city: much of its character comes from Addison Mizner’s 1920s Mediterranean Revival architecture and from strict zoning that has kept buildings low and signage restrained, which makes it feel notably calmer than Miami. Florida Atlantic University is based here, and the city has a substantial corporate and technology presence inland along the I-95 corridor. For visitors the appeal is straightforward: several miles of public beach, reliable winter weather, and easy access to three international airports.
- South Beach Park and Red Reef Park - Long stretches of public Atlantic beach with dune boardwalks, both a short drive from downtown.
- Mizner Park - An open-air plaza of restaurants, cinema and the Boca Raton Museum of Art, and the closest thing the city has to a centre.
- Gumbo Limbo Nature Center - A coastal reserve with sea turtle rehabilitation tanks and a boardwalk through mangroves.
- Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens - Six distinct gardens and a museum of Japanese culture, about 20 minutes north in Delray Beach.
- Everglades day trip - The eastern edge of the Everglades is roughly an hour west.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is the closest major airport, about 30 minutes south, and usually the cheapest. Palm Beach International (PBI) is around 30 minutes north and often quieter. Miami International (MIA) is roughly an hour south and has the widest long-haul network. Boca Raton has its own small executive airport with no scheduled service.
You will want a car, or you will lean on rideshare. Boca Raton is spread out and its business parks, university and beaches are several miles apart, with limited local bus service. Tri-Rail commuter trains and Brightline connect the city north to West Palm Beach and south to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, which covers longer trips well, but they will not help you cross town.
November to April is the season: warm, dry and sunny, which is also when rates peak and the city fills with winter residents. Early November, when ICTAI runs, catches the start of it. The summer months are hot, very humid and prone to afternoon thunderstorms, and hurricane season runs June to November with the highest risk in September and October.

Boca Raton splits into three: the beachfront and Intracoastal strip east of Federal Highway, downtown around Mizner Park, and the inland business corridor along Military Trail and Congress Avenue near I-95. The beach and Intracoastal hotels are the most pleasant and the most expensive; downtown is walkable to restaurants and the museum; the inland cluster is cheaper, close to the corporate parks and the university, and assumes you have a car. Since almost nothing here is walkable between districts, pick on proximity to your venue rather than on atmosphere, and expect winter rates from November onwards.
