Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates

Abu Dhabi is a city where modern skylines meet the calm beauty of the Arabian Gulf. Wide, palm-lined streets lead to sleek hotels, pristine beaches, and cultural landmarks that give the capital of the UAE its distinctive character. For a conference traveler, it is the kind of place where an extra day or two can turn a business trip into something memorable. They arrived for the event, but found themselves drawn to the Corniche, a long waterfront promenade perfect for morning walks or evening bike rides with views across the water. A guided visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque left a lasting impression with its white marble domes, intricate carvings, and peaceful courtyards. Afternoons were often spent at Saadiyat Island’s beach clubs or exploring the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s striking galleries. For shopping, Yas Mall offered both luxury brands and local finds, and nearby Ferrari World provided a burst of adrenaline between conference sessions. Sunset dhow cruises along the coastline offered a quieter way to take in the city’s shimmering skyline, while rooftop lounges at hotels like the St. Regis and Jumeirah at Etihad Towers served as perfect spots to end the evening. A short drive out into the desert brought camel rides, sandboarding, and star-filled skies. Abu Dhabi rewards travelers who slow down, offering a mix of culture, relaxation, and adventure that makes it more than just a conference destination.

What to Do

The Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island is one of the most architecturally remarkable museums built in recent decades, with Jean Nouvel’s perforated dome creating a spectacular play of light. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world and visually stunning in white marble - open to respectful non-Muslim visitors in the mornings. The Corniche waterfront stretches 8 km along the Arabian Gulf with parks, cycling paths, and beaches. Yas Island has Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, and the Formula 1 circuit; the Yas Marina Circuit museum is worth a visit even outside race season.

Getting There

Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) is the Etihad Airways hub, 30 km from downtown. No metro connects the airport to the city; taxis and rideshare (Uber, Careem) take about 30-40 minutes to the center. A new Midfield Terminal opened in 2023, significantly expanding capacity.

Getting Around

Abu Dhabi has a bus network but no metro, making taxis and rideshare (Uber, Careem) the most practical options for visitors. The Corniche seafront is walkable and pleasant in cooler months. The distance between major attractions means a car or multiple taxis are needed for a full day of sightseeing.

Weather & Timing

November to March is the optimal window, with temperatures between 18-25C and low humidity. Outdoor life is pleasant and the city hosts its major events during this period. April and October are shoulder months. May to September is very hot and humid, with temperatures often above 40C.
